Welcome!

We have developed a resource for educators and parents to find anti-racist children's picture books and anti-racist parenting information.

Our Mission

Children's picture books can be an effective tool in teaching children in socially-just ways about themselves and about people who are different from them.  Our mission in designing this wiki is to recommend children's picture books that are written from the anti-racist perspective, that promote constructive discussions around issues of race and common humanity, and that do not foster the continuation of negative racial stereotyping.  We have considered, analyzed, and reviewed children's picture books that we feel are truly anti-racist.  Given the plethora of multicultral themes represented in books, and we chose to focus our selection of books and resources on ones that promote positive representations of African Americans.

We hope that we can provide a valuable resource for educators and parents to learn about nurturing anti-racist children.

Your site is a valuable resource for teachers and parents interested in finding information on literature for children that addresses racial matters. The annotations of books, the lists of resources, and your analysis of synthesis of information are especially informative. Thanks for providing attention to this important matter. What a wonderful job you have done! Sandra
